Milberg LLP is investigating Your Baby Can, LLC, the company behind the popular “Your Baby Can Read!” learning kit, for possible violations of U.S. federal and state consumer laws. An NBC Today Show segment challenged the promises made by the company, which claims the learning kit can teach infants how to read using flash cards, DVDs, and pop-up books. The advertisements for the kit boast that infants as young as three months old can begin learning to read using the Your Baby Can Read! program.
Ten child development experts, who were asked by the Today Show to provide their assessment of the “Your Baby Can Read!” product, all attributed the infants’ perceived literacy to memorization rather than actual reading from a flash card. “I think it’s misleading, I think it’s false, and I think it raises false expectations,” said Dr. Karen Hopkins, a developmental pediatrician at New York University’s Langone Medical Center. In fact, experts state that most children cannot really learn to read until they are four or five years old because the brain has yet to develop the cognitive ability.
Purchasers of the “Your Baby Can Read!” learning kit who wish to talk to a lawyer from Milberg LLP, at no obligation to you, may complete the form to the right.
