Recently, Crocs has begun promoting its “Tone” footwear line. These shoes/sandals are designed with what are commonly known as “rocker bottoms.” The company claims that their “Tone” footwear helps wearers achieve significant health benefits, including increased muscle activity, muscle toning, improved circulation, and improved posture. Specifically, Crocs sells its “Tone” footwear to consumers with claims that the “sculpted outsole creates a rocker effect while you walk that can help initiate key muscle activity to provide toning benefits.”
However, some studies suggest that the purported benefits of toning shoes may be false, and therefore detrimental to consumers. Even worse, some doctors believe that toning shoes may cause injury to some wearers. Specifically, people who have problems with balance, or who are predisposed to injuries in their ankles, achilles tendons, or hamstrings, may exacerbate these conditions by wearing the shoes.
